Small Group Reading

During small group instruction, children with similar reading behaviors will read books in small groups with a teacher's support. Leveled readers and decodable readers will reinforce the reading concepts taught in each unit. The books are designed to enable children to identify parts of a book, read print left to right, practice high-frequency words, use decoding skills and read for fluency. The books also allow children to practice and use different comprehension strategies and skills while reading.  Other concepts that may be reinforced during this time may be handwriting, phonemic awareness, phonics, and writing. These books can also be read at home using the Wonders Language Arts Program.
