PARENTS, AS WE LEARNED TODAY 4/9/20, THAT SCHOOLS WILL NOT BE OPEN FOR THE REST OF THIS SCHOOL YEAR, I AM SURE YOUR STUDENT HAS MIXED EMOTIONS, JUST LIKE US ADULTS.  I THINK IT MAY BE ESPECIALLY DIFFICULT FOR MANY OF OUR 4TH GRADERS TO NOT HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO PARTICIPATE IN SPECIAL END OF THE YEAR PROGRAMMING, LIKE CAREER DAY, FUN DAY, FIELD TRIPS, CMS TOURS AND SO ON....

THE ONLY LESSON UNIT I HAVE NOT COMPLETED IN 4TH GRADE WAS MY CONFLICT RESOLUTION LESSONS.  YOUR STUDENT HAS BEEN LEARNING ABOUT CONFLICTS SINCE 1ST GRADE!!  I WILL BE POSTING MY CONFLICT LESSONS ON YOUR CHILD'S GOOGLE CLASSROOM PLATFORM, WHERE THEY CAN VIEW IT ON THEIR OWN TIME....NOTHING TO BE GRADED- JUST LIFE LESSONS TO THINK ABOUT.

FOR ME, IT WILL BE ESPECIALLY DIFFICULT NOT TO CELEBRATE THE END OF THE YEAR WITH YOUR CHILD, AS I HAVE BEEN WITH MOST 4TH GRADERS SINCE THEY STARTED KINDERGARTEN!!  IT IS A VERY SPECIAL GROUP OF STUDENTS TO ME AND I AM SAD AT NOT HAVING THE OPPORTUNITY TO CELEBRATE THE ENDING OF THEIR LAST YEAR AT SHECKLER.  SURELY, THIS IS OUT OF EVERYONE'S CONTROL, BUT IT DOES NOT TAKE AWAY THE DISAPPOINTMENT MANY MAY FEEL.  IF THERE IS ANYTHING I CAN DO FOR YOU OR YOUR CHILD, PLEASE EMAIL ME AT CECCATTIK@CATTYSD.ORG OR I SENT A LINK ON YOUR CHILD'S GOOGLE CLASSROOM PAGE WHERE YOU CAN LET ME KNOW THE BEST WAY TO GET IN TOUCH WITH YOU.

PLEASE KNOW THAT IT WAS AN HONOR BEING YOUR STUDENT'S SCHOOL COUNSELOR ALL THESE YEARS, AND I LOOK FORWARD TO SEE WHERE THEIR PATHS TAKE THEM!

MOST SINCERELY, KIM

4th grade students will see me about 12 times a year for classroom guidance lessons.  Lesson topics will be on bullying, conflict resolution, career development. (Please know that we will be looking for parent volunteers to come in and share about their careers in the spring of each year when 4th grade has their Career Day!) At the end of this school year, the 4th grade teachers, middle school counselors and I will be helping to transition your students to the middle school.  I will be sending home a letter sometime in May informing you of what activities your child will be engaging in and when we will be taking a tour of the middle school.

Each year your student will also get 8 weeks of the PATHS (Promoting Alternative THinking Strategies) program.  This is provided by exceptional facilitators from the CARON Foundation.

4th graders may participate in small counseling groups.  Groups are run during your child's lunch period and last about 6-8 weeks.  Group topics include, but not limited to, anger management, impulse control, divorce support, or grief support.  Your child may not participate in a group without parental permission.  Every student will get a permission slip in September.  If this slip gets lost, you can click on my main page and see a link to the permission slip.

Your child's teacher and I will also be working with your student to prepare him or her for middle school. The middle school counselors will come down and spend some time with the 4th graders.  Students will also go up and tour the middle school in May.  There will be a parent orientation in May (notification will come from the middle school).
